TEXAS CITY — An 8,000-pound tugboat engine crashed to the pavement Wednesday when a flatbed truck flipped shortly after 10 a.m. and blocked traffic for two hours.
Texas City police said the truck driver wasn’t seriously injured in the single-vehicle crash on state Highway 146 just south of the Dickinson Bayou bridge, but he was taken to Mainland Medical Center.

Charlie Russell, of Marine Systems, said the 8,000-pound, 2,000-horsepower Detroit Diesel engine powers tugboats or similar-service boats and has a useful life span of about 21,000 hours. It was being hauled to Galveston for an overhaul, he said.
